Dear Mr. Yeo,

First of all, I would like to thank you and Sharing One Language for operating in Belarus. This country is largely isolated from most forms of European cooperation, and people in Belarus do not have the possibility to participate in most educational programmes like people in all other countries of Europe do. Therefore, the presence of every international educational organization in Belarus despite the difficulties usually associated with doing business in the country is very valuable.

However, I personally was quite disappointed by the news that Mrs. Marjana Hruzdziłovič, a teacher at SOL Minsk, has been dismissed from her position for unclear reasons that may be related to her political views.

Belarus is a country classified by many international organizations, including the OSCE and the United Nations, as undemocratic. According to numerous reports, the government of Belarus may be responsible for violations of basic human rights and for repressions against political opposition and independent media.

It is therefore very disappointing that the management of SOL Minsk de-facto contributes to political terror in Belarus by having dismissed Mrs. Hruzdziłovič for reasons related to politics, as it says in many media reports. This incident not only questions the ethics and integrity of SOL representatives in Belarus, but unfortunately also harms the reputation of Sharing One Language as an international organization.

I kindly ask you to initiate an internal investigation of the reported facts and to take relevant measures to overcome negative effects of the incident. Together with many other people in Belarus and abroad closely following the situation, I hope that the renewal of Mrs. Hruzdziłovič in her position as English language teacher will be the first step taken.
